A Convergence of Art, Faith and Tradition
Salem, CT (March 2008) – The pursuit of the artistic life and expression
has led Norwich resident Barbara Dawiczyk Vartenigian down many paths: art curriculum developer,
instructor, illustrator, potter, doll maker, jewelry artist and painter. A convergence of her art,
faith and spirituality has brought her on yet another journey that included a trip to Russia. Since
2003, Barbara has been studying iconography with Marek Charnecki in Meriden. She paints the images
of Christ, Mary and the saints in the centuries-old traditions of the Russian, Greek and Byzantine
iconographers.
Twenty of Barbara’s icons will be exhibited at The Gilded Edge Custom Framing and
Gallery from March 11th through April 5th with a reception for the artist on Friday, March 14th
from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. The public is invited.
On Thursday, March 27th, from 7-8:30 p.m., Barbara will give a talk about the fascinating
process of creating traditional icons. While there is no charge for the talk, reservations are
required by March 20th.
