About the Exhibit
Three area pastel artists, Lin Gotta of Marlborough, Susan Bosworth from Bolton, and Helen Davis from Glastonbury, will be featured in an exhibit at The Gilded Edge Custom Framing and Gallery in Salem, entitled Variations in Pastels.
This group of friends, and up and coming, award winning artists, has been painting together for nearly a decade. After meeting at the Glastonbury Art Guild nine years ago, they each continue to work toward improving their craft and still paint together at the Guild once a week.
Though they paint in the same medium, each has their unique style and subject matter preference. Susan’s paintings are often studies of buildings and architecture. Helen is mainly a landscape and coastal scene painter, and Lin focuses on intimate landscapes or close ups of nature and animals. “One thing we all have in common,” says Lin, “is the desire to be better, particularly as impressionist painters. The tendency when you first learn to paint is to focus on detail. It’s actually quite a challenge to move away from that.” All of their paintings illustrate the interplay of sunlight and shadow as well as the layering of colors with pastels.
